“I saw a few days ago they (Manchester City) scored two goals in the last minutes, 91 and 93. I had a bet that Manchester United would win the league but I lost. I feel very disappointed because United are still in my heart. City have a fantastic team now, but I think Manchester United will carry on being kings of England.”

The design of Manchester United’s 2012/13 home shirt is inspired by gingham, a fabric first produced in Manchester during the Industrial Revolution. Its iconic checked pattern remains an enduring symbol of the city’s culture today.
Sir Alex Ferguson: ”I think the great similarity is the industrial part of Manchester, which has always been there, like the cotton mills. For instance, Manchester United started from a railway background and if you look at the club, it has always had a great work ethic about it, and the players who have been successful in this club have adopted that fantastic work ethic. That is what Manchester is really; it’s a working class city, with working class people - and that’s our history.”
Ryan Giggs: “I think the gingham design is great - it looks the part. It is a bit different from last year’s kit and it has moved on which Manchester United, both on and off the pitch, like to try and do. We try to move on and do different things. The players love it and I’m sure the fans will love it as well.”
Javier Hernandez: “I think it is really nice; the most important thing is that it is still red and that it is comfortable. The gingham design is very important - it came from Manchester and it is very important to have in this famous jersey.”
